About SPEC

The Solano-Napa Pet Emergency Clinic (SPEC) was founded in 1981 by a group of local general practice veterinarians to reduce the burden of after-hours emergency calls and improve the quality of this care. Over the years SPEC has continued this tradition of serving the local veterinary community by providing high quality after-hours emergency care. Our central location at the 80-680 freeway interchange provides freeway access from surrounding areas including Fairfield, Vacaville, Napa, Vallejo, and Benicia. We are available every night, weekend, and major holiday of the year; no appointment is necessary for emergency care, though we do ask that you call in advance if possible. We work closely with veterinarians in general practice with the shared goal of providing your pet with the best possible care.

The most important ingredient in providing quality medical care, whether human or veterinary, is the people providing that care. We are very proud of the team of skilled and compassionate doctors, veterinary assistants and technicians, and client service staff assembled to care for you and your pet in a time of need. Our doctors and paraprofessional staff routinely receive excellent ratings on our client and referring veterinarian surveys. When your pet is under our care, you can rest assured that she or he is in good hands.

Our state-of-the-art hospital was specifically designed to provide emergency and specialty care. Patient cages and runs are conveniently located just off our main treatment floor to allow close supervision around the clock. Each pet receives individual attention, comfortable bedding, and outdoor walks (if medically appropriate). Except at times when we are unusually busy, we allow clients to visit their pets and feel this can promote a patient’s recovery. We also allow hospital tours so our clients can see where their pet will be staying.

We believe that pets are part of the family and enrich all of our lives.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to serve pets and people by continually pushing to improve our medicine, our service, our communication, and ourselves. We can accomplish this by working as a team, supporting our referring veterinarians, caring about every patient, learning from others, embracing change, and using intelligent and fair business practices.
